We are looking for volunteers to undertake any or all of the following activities:
Home Befriending. Volunteers who make home visits to those in the parish, or further afield through an excellent Catholic charity called Vincentian Care.
Care/Nursing Home Visitors. Volunteers who could go in small teams to make social contact with those in care.
Sunday Mass Helpers. Volunteers who would be prepared to give some of their time on Sunday mornings to help people come to the 11am Mass at the Oratory.
Of the above activities two are brand new and one (the bus) has been run by the SVP for a number of years.
The two new activities are:
We plan to visit the elderly at home in three ways:
- One to one visits to the elderly known to us through the parish. We will introduce and support the relationship between the volunteer and the elderly person who would like a visit.
- Families ‘adopting’ an elderly person with no family of his or her own in London. This gives the whole family the chance to get involved in befriending an elderly person and helping out where necessary.
- Joining a team of volunteers from the Oratory to support the work of the Catholic Charity Vincentian Care Plus, which operates in Westminster, who already have a large ‘client’ list of elderly in need of befriending. The Vincentian Sisters provide volunteers with training and support in their befriending activity.
Care/Nursing Home Visits
We are about to start visiting parishioners in Care and Nursing Homes. We see this as complementary to the befriending service above which takes place in people’s houses.
Lastly, to aid the SVP with its work, we are looking for volunteers to take elderly parishioners on a minibus to 11 am Mass each Sunday. This calls upon volunteers to join a rota to offer their Sunday mornings every five weeks or so to help out driving or pushing wheelchairs.
We are looking for volunteers to help even if you can only spare a few hours a week or even month. Please call or e-mail us if you wish to hear more contact us
